All kinds of programs will be happening across the state: Signature Events & Programs of the Maine Bicentennial Commission, plus dozens of others offered by Maine’s large network of cultural organizations, local schools and communities, and more.

Maine200 Time Capsule

A collection of items installed on the State Capitol grounds in 2020, built as a public art project and sealed by a group of young people charged with renewing the effort for future generations.


Juvenile White Pine trees provided to participating communities for planting along with a commemorative Maine Bicentennial marker, to anchor new or existing public park areas.



Raising awareness of the bicentennial statewide by providing 3’ x 5’ official bicentennial flags for display on all public buildings such as schools and government offices.

Concert series

Four live concerts, one in each season of 2020, at various venues around the state.

The Maine Bicentennial Community Cookbook: 200 Recipes Celebrating maine's culinary past, present & future

The cookbook will include signature dishes from the state’s top chefs, as well as family recipes of famous Mainers, including Governor Janet Mills, Senator Angus King, and astronaut Jessica Meir. But the majority of recipes will come from everyday Mainers, who are invited to submit treasured family recipes, food stories, photos, and heirloom recipe cards.

The finished book will be a beautiful testament to food in Maine, and a must-have keepsake of Maine’s Bicentennial. Submit a family recipe, photo or food history.
