Kickoff Day: Friday, July 26, 2019 in Presque Isle, Bangor, Augusta, Portland (possibly Lewiston and Kennebunk as well). Gov. Mills will visit multiple communities for small ceremonies at which we will raise the bicentennial flag.
Statehood Day Weekend, March 14-15, 2020. Speeches, poetry and musical performance, display of statehood papers, Hall of Flags, Augusta.
Summer Celebration featuring Tall Ships America, multiple weekends, July 2020. Tall Ships America will offer educational experiences for youth and public opportunities to view ships at various ports along the coast, including Portland, Rockland & others.
Time Capsule Program: (Ongoing) Coordinating and gathering submissions for the commission’s consideration.
State of Maine Bicentennial Parade, Saturday, May 16 in Lewiston-Auburn. Multiple units will come together for this parade celebrating Maine’s history and culture.
Closing Weekend Events (Oct. 9-11, 2020)
Expo: A bicentennial exposition, open to the public, featuring Maine entities’ future-focused work and new technologies. Tentative: Cross Insurance Center, Bangor (and possibly a second location in Portland)
Dinner: An invitation-only dinner to recognize bicentennial sponsors, partners, legislators and others who contributed to the celebration. Cross Insurance Center, Bangor
Time Capsule Installation: A formal ceremony installing the time capsule and dedicating the accompanying art installment, with participation from the Time Capsule Keepers. State House Complex, Augusta
