What's in a Name
Names are usually the first piece of information shared. They serve as identifiers of culture and origin, of links to place or history. They are a representation of identity.
This historical exhibit of the two centuries prior to statehood explores the identity of Topsham and surrounding communities and its peoples as well as Maine at large by taking a look back at original place names, names of native inhabitants and early settlers, and events that shaped our evolution to who we are today and how we relate to our environment.
